Fall & Winter Runway Jewelry Trends
New York Fashion Week revealed some of the hottest Fall and Winter jewelry trends that we all should expect to see in the remaining months of 2018. For these upcoming seasons, you can be sure to see more extreme proportions, the resurgence of a few throwback styles, and gold as the go-to metal of the season! Based on the runway, here’s a compiled list of the most seen, and most wearable styles:
AUTUMN LEAVES
When you think of Fall, autumn leaves cross your mind, don’t they? Leaves are whimsical and delicate and are making a breakthrough in the fashion industry as a go to statement piece connecting you to nature in these upcoming chilling months. Chanel, Giambattista Valli, Chloé and Jacquemus all presented nature inspired jewelry on the runway this year.
CHUNKY CHAINS
Fearless oversized jewelry is a mega-trend on the runway. It takes one oversized piece of jewelry to make a statement and completely transform a look; however some fashion designers have been layering chunky jewelry to juxtapose simple attire. Oversized chokers, chains, bangles, and earrings are taking over the runway this year. Dolce & Gabanna, Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, Chloe, and Balenciaga all sent repetitions of this trend down the runway this year.
SINGULAR EARRINGS
Sophisticated yet playful, mismatched and singular earrings are making their debut this year. There is something intoxicating and original about the imbalance in proportion when wearing one single earring, or a single stud in one ear with an outlandish chandelier earring in the other. This is the time to wear your wildly shaped art deco earrings as well, to give off that enigmatic appeal. Chanel, Dries Van Noten, Jacquemus, Prabal Gurung, Roksanda, and Carven all sent their models down the runway showcasing this eye-catching trend for the upcoming seasons.
LAYERED BODY CHAINS
The 90’s are back! Delicate, dazzling minimalistic body chains and jewelry are at an all-time high. Crisscrossed across the abdomen, chest, shoulders, and wrists of the models on the runway are some of the most beautiful chains worn both outside and underneath clothing. While Gucci decided to showcase flashy body jewelry, most designers like Area, Phillip Lim and Jacquemus decided to use more simplistic body chains on the runway this year.
GOLD HOOPS
Gold hoops have been a seasonal go-to accessory since the 80’s, but this year, they’re taking on a more head-turning form. You can plan on getting accustomed to thick and gaudy hoops, layered oversized hoops for each earring piercing, and even slinky earrings this fall and winter season. Designers like Y/Project, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci have all sent models down the runway wearing this artistic twist to such a classic trend.
